Junior Hoilett has told BBC Sport that signing for Cardiff City was an obvious move for him.
The 26-year-old winger had been a free agent following his release from QPR in the summer and after months of being without a club, he finally got signed when Neil Warnock made him one of his first few signings following his appointment as Cardiff’s head coach. He was signed along fellow free agents Maroune Chamakh and Sol Bamba.
And for Hoilett, this was a great move which he believed was a no brainer as he got the chance to reunite with his former boss Warnock. The former Leeds United boss became the interim manager of QPR following the sacking of Chris Ramsey and while he was well liked at Loftus Road during his second spell there, he was eventually replaced by Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.
And while Hoilett only spent a short time with Warnock during that spell, he clearly enjoyed that spell and was very excited to reunite in South Wales. He said: “It’s great when you have a manager who believes in you,”
“I was 100% ready to go. I worked with him at QPR and he gave me an extra boost. I love working under Neil Warnock, so it was a no-brainer to come here to Cardiff,”
And Hoilett loved playing in his debut at Cardiff City Stadium when they beat Bristol City 2-1 on Friday night, adding: “You could see everyone was giving their all. Everyone was running that extra yard for each other, putting tackles in,”
“We got the result, which is great for getting the bragging rights in a local derby. The atmosphere was magnificent.”
