Sean Dyche denies he ever talked to Aston Villa

Burnley head coach Sean Dyche has told the Lancashire Telegraph that he never had any talks with Aston Villa over the manager’s job there.

Aston Villa had been looking for a new manager following the sacking of Roberto Di Matteo but found their man earlier this week following the appointment of former Hull City boss Steve Bruce. However before Bruce took the dugout at Villa Park, speculation started to increase that Dyche may be prepared to leave his Premier League side and drop down to manager the Villains. This speculation became so prevalent that his odds to become the next Villa manager were slashed so much he became the second favourite.

However while Dyche admitted why he could see how he’d be linked to the job like Villa after having so much success at Burnley during his four years at Turf Moor, he has confirmed that Villa never got in contact with him and that he never had any talks about leaving the Clarets.

When asked in his pre-match press conference, Dyche said: “It’s just after two promotions in three years out of the Championship I think it’s a commonsensical link more than anything,”

“I think they’ve appointed a very good man.”

“I get on well with Brucey and like him a lot as a person as well as his record as a manager. I wish him well.”

The man who was appointed, Bruce, will get his first chance to turn things around at Aston Villa when they face Wolves in front of the Sky Sports cameras tomorrow.
