Tony Mowbray will not be next Shrewsbury Town manager

Tony Mowbray has ruled himself out of becoming the new Shrewsbury Town head coach according to a report from the Shropshire Star.

The Shrews have been looking for a new manager since Micky Mellon decided to leave the club to take the vacant role with Vanarama National side Tranmere Rovers but have suffered a number of blows as many candidates have started to rule themselves out of the running. Steve Cotterill, Paul Hurst and even the current caretaker manager Danny Coyne have all said they don’t want want the job which made Mowbray the new favourite.

But now Mowbray, who has only recently become unemployed after he decided to resign as head coach of Coventry City following a poor start to the season, has also decided to rule himself out of the job and has said he will not be the next manager of Shrewsbury. This report suggests that he doesn’t want to jump straight into another role and is hoping to take a break before he gets his next job in football.

This news has lead to a reshuffle of the people are now favourites to get the head coach’s job at Shrewsbury. The current favourite is Jim Bentley who has been the head coach of Morecambe for five years now. Also linked to the role are Kenny Jackett who has been without a job since he was sacked by Wolves new owners in the summer and Rob Edwards who is the current first team coach of Wolves under their new head coach Walter Zenga.
