Allardyce a perfect candidate to transform Villa

Disgraced England manager Sam Allardyce could be a perfect managerial candidate to transform the fortunes of SkyBet Championship club Aston Villa.

The axe could fall on current Villa boss Roberto Di Matteo later this week after a 2-0 defeat at Preston North End on Saturday afternoon stretched the club’s winless league run to nine matches and should Villa find themselves looking for a new manager, Big Sam could be their man.

Allardyce is out of work after leaving his job as England manager by mutual consent just 67 days into the role following claims of corruption by the Daily Telegraph which left his position untenable. The 61 year old has admitted that he would like to return to management before Christmas although the former SkyBet Championship title and Play Off winner may need to rebuild his career by dropping down a level with many Premier League clubs potentially concerned about the bad press which the appointment of Allardyce would generate.

The Premier League’s loss would be Villa’s gain if owner Dr Tony Xia could manage to bring Allardyce to Villa Park. Villa have become a soft touch in English football’s second tier and are quickly becoming a laughing stock but Big Sam’s reputation of revitalising clubs making them difficult to beat could be a huge benefit to Aston Villa.

Allardyce has never won a domestic trophy in the Premier League but having guided both Bolton Wanderers and West Ham United from the SkyBet Championship into the top flight he ticks all of the boxes to succeed at Villa Park. Having grown up in Dudley, the former England boss knows exactly what Villa fans expect and despite his controversial spell as national boss and unattractive style of football, Allardyce would be welcomed by many in claret and blue.
