Port Vale: Ribiero apologises to fans after poor display

Port Vale manager, Bruno Ribiero, has apologised to fans after his team’s poor display against Coventry City.

The Sky Blues, who had not won before today, ran out 2-0 winners at Vale park. This came just a few days after the resignation of their now former manager, Tony Mowbray.

Vale, who have now dropped to sixth after today’s defeat – had previously held a 100% record at home.

That record began to look under threat when well-travelled forward, Marvin Sordell, opened the scoring after 36 minutes. Michael Brown was dispossessed in the build up by Gael Bigirimana. The powerful run that followed by Bigirimana saw him find Sordell in the area and the former Bolton man-made no mistake from close range.

They nearly fell further behind prematurely after 66 minutes, when a poor throw out by Vale keeper, Jak Alnwick found Daniel Agyei. The Vale keeper made up for his mistake with a fine save from the resulting effort.

Coventry’s 1-0 lead doubled in the 72nd minute. Vale again losing the ball in the middle of the pitch, this time, it was Paulo Tavares who was wasteful in possession, after being well charged down by Agyei.  Burnley loanee, Agyei, then produced a clever ball to find Chris McCann in the box, before emphatically smashing the ball into the roof of the net.

Ribeiro told BBC Radio Stoke afterwards: “Today we were very bad. I’m sorry for our supporters and everybody here. All the time it was too slow, it was a bad game.
