Gillingham release former Tottenham midfielder

In recent weeks the 30-year-old midfielder, who only signed for the Gills in the summer when he penned a two-year deal with them, has been trying to overcome a foot injury and add to his solitary appearance for the club. However O’Hara hasn’t recovered as quickly as the team expected and have consulting the player himself, the club have decided to release him. Now O’Hara will be forced to work on his own to recover from this injury and find a new club, though he won’t be able to sign for one until the January transfer window.

O’Hara started his career by coming through the Arsenal academy but he ended up making his professional début for their North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur where he made 34 appearances as well as having loan spells at Chesterfield, Portsmouth and Wolves. He would then go on to make that last loan into a permanent deal but after three years there he moved on to playing for Blackpool. It was a nightmare year on the seaside though as the Tangerines would get relegated from the Sky Bet Championship but he’d remain in the second tier after signing for Fulham.

He would then stay at the Cottagers for a year before being released again and finally dropping into the Sky Bet League One and signing a deal with Gillingham. This wouldn’t last very long though as he was released today following a slow recovery to his foot injury.
