Sheffield United in talks to sign Wolves defender permanently

Sheffield United head coach Chris Wilder has confirmed to the Sheffield Star that they are in talks to sign Wolves’ Ethan Ebanks-Landell on a permanent deal.

The young defender was one of the players who lost out following the takeover of Fosun International and appointment of Walter Zenga as head coach saw him getting pushed down the pecking order. And so he went out on loan to the Blades in order to get some first team football and while he has only made a few appearances for them so far, he has impressed so far.

And now Wilder is looking into make his temporary stay at Bramall Lane a permanent one. It may seem easy as Ebanks-Landell’s contract is set to run out next summer but Wolves have a clause in his contract where they could extend his deal by another twelve months, meaning United may have to pay a sizable fee in the January transfer window.

But right now Wilder is hoping to secure the Wolves defender on a permanent deal, saying: “There are discussions going on between us and Ethan all the time, and they will ramp up towards January,”

“He has been outstanding for us, the supporters have taken to a player who is fully committed and wants to win.”

“We are talking all the time, but we can’t do anything right now. There are things underway that hopefully can go forward with. He just has to get his head down and play consistent good football, which he is doing at the moment.”
