Bridcutt

Leeds United rocked by injury blow to key player

Speaking in his pre-match press briefing, Leeds United head coach Garry Monk has said that captain Liam Bridcutt will be out of action for up to two months with a foot injury. The problem has kept the former Sunderland and Brighton & Hove Albion man out of their previous four matches.

The 27-year-old sustained the issue in the Championship victory over Blackburn Rovers at Elland Road on September 13th. It was hoped that he would’ve returned much earlier than now as the club didn’t initially believe the problem was too serious. Prior to each of those last four games, Monk said that Bridcutt was a doubt and could potentially play a part.

There is better news however on the condition of centre back Pontus Jansson, who was substituted at Bristol City on Tuesday night. However Monk has since confirmed that it was only ‘precautionary’ that he was taken off at Ashton Gate and has been back training with his teammates as normal.

Since making the move from Sunderland permanently in August, Bridcutt has started four matches, adding on to the 27 appearances he made last season during a successful loan spell when signed up by then head coach Steve Evans. The hard-working midfielder quickly established himself as a key member of the team and a big favourite amongst the supporters. They’ll be hoping he returns sooner rather than later, although in the four games Bridcutt has missed so far, Leeds won three of those.
