Brighton: Hughton instructs players to control their emotions

Brighton & Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton insists that his players have ‘got to learn’ after losing another player to suspension (The Argus). In the 0-0 draw at Ipswich Town, Dale Stephens was sent off for two yellow cards, the first being for dissent. Gaetan Bong sat the match out for collecting five yellow cards and Hughton says the team must manage their feelings.

The Seagulls claimed a point at Portman Road, a result which Hughton was pleased with, and they picked up their fourth clean sheet in as many games in the process. However he is clearly frustrated at losing another player to a ban which could’ve been avoided.

Left back Bong collected his fifth yellow of the campaign when arguing with the referee in the Barnsley game and Stephens was cautioned last night too. The former Newcastle, Birmingham and Norwich boss insists that this cannot continue,

“It’s something that every club has got to learn but certainly us this season. Gaetan gets a ban because of a booking for dissent and the same with Dale.

“We’ve got to learn. I know Dale’s frustration because it was a definite foul on him. The ref is right there, sees it, but what Dale has to do is not vent his anger, because referees are going to book you these days.

“I’ve got no problem with the second on (yellow card for Stephens). He’s attempted to go for the ball but it was a yellow card.”

Brighton will therefore face Sheffield Wednesday this weekend without not only Stephens, but also Beram Kayal through injury as well.
