Leeds United start battle with Watford to sign Senegalese defender

Leeds United are set to battle it out with Watford to try and get the signature of Avellino’s Layousse Diallo according to a report from Italian publication Otto Pagine.

This season has seen Diallo, who is a defender that can play in both the left and centre of the defence, become a star for the Serie B club after signing from Fiorentina in the summer and that has meant teams are starting to take notice and prepare bids for the January transfer window.

And according to this report, both Leeds and Watford are considering making a move for the 19-year-old. Both teams have been trying to get the best talent out of Italy for a few years now thanks to their own Italian ownership, with the controversial Massimo Cellino at Leeds and the Pozzo family at Watford. French club Monaco are also said to be interested in the Senegalese defender.

If Leeds do want to sign him, it will be tough for them to persuade Diallo to switch to Elland Road. The other interested parties can offer the defender a higher standard of football with Watford being in the Premier League and Monaco qualifying for the Champions League this year and having a good chance of getting into the knockout stages as they currently top their group following a draw with Bayer Leverkusen.

What Leeds will be able to offer is a better chance of getting first team football and how they have managed to get many of their youngsters into the first team and more, as evidenced by the likes of Lewis Cook and Sam Byram making big moves into the Premier League since the start of 2016 after developing themselves in West Yorkshire.
