Rumour: Aston Villa line up Di Matteo replacement

According to ‘Agent Dave’ on Twitter, Aston Villa are considering hiring Brentford head coach Dean Smith as a replacement for under pressure boss Roberto Di Matteo.

Villa have, as it stands, only one of their first ten games in the league and have rapidly become the leagues draw specialists.

Thanks to the 89th minute equalizer they conceded last night, to Barnsley’s Sam Winnall, the Birmingham-based side have now shared the points seven times this season.

Di Matteo, appointed in the summer, is said to be losing the support of their new chairman, Tony Xia; having already lost a lot of support from the long-suffering Villa crowd.

Rumors circulated last night on everyone’s favorite social networking site, twitter, that he (Di Matteo) may be set to take charge of his last game this weekend; with a change set to happen during the international break.

His rumored replacement is said to be Smith, whose first job in management was at nearby Walsall.

This would come as a massive blow, should the rumors develop, to the London side who following last nights comfortable win over Reading, moved up to fourth in the table.

This might only be short rumors at present but should the situation arise, there will be a lot for Smith himself to consider.

Some people would probably ask why you would leave a side that is currently flying, as his Brentford side are, to join up with a side sitting towards the bottom of the table?

But this could well be a brilliant opportunity for Smith.

He was a Villa fan as a child and the opportunity to work for club of that size, in the area of the country he grew up in, could well be an offer he simply couldn’t turn down.
