Wigan Athletic v Wolverhampton Wanderers – match preview

Bottom of the table Wigan Athletic host Walter Zenga’s Wolves on Tuesday (27th) with the latter searching for back to back league victories.

Team news:
Wigan Athletic:

Wigan will consider Shaun MacDonald after the midfielder missed Friday night’s defeat to local rivals, Preston.

Nick Powell and David Perkins could be a starting contender for the Latics, after they both made a substitute appearance in the 1-0 defeat at Deepdale.

There is less encouraging news for The Latics, however, as, they are still without five first teamers. Reece James, Donervon Daniels, Alex Gilbey, Kyle Knoyle, Andy Kellett, Craig Morgan and Reece Burke all won’t be considered.

Wolverhampton Wanderers:

Nouha Dicko won’t feature for Wolves, despite featuring in their latest under-23 game. The forward has been out for a considerable amount of time following a career-threatening knee injury.

Ivan Cavaleiro can also be in line for a starting place. The Portuguese international winger scored his first goal for the club in their 3-1 victory over Brentford at the weekend and has given his manager food for thought going into this one.

Form guides:

The home side, Wigan are currently in an awful run of form and the league’s bottom club have won just one of their opening nine fixtures. Their only victory coming against fellow strugglers, Blackburn Rovers, on the second weekend of the season.

Wolves go into this fixture having lost only two of their first nine league fixtures and are currently sitting just outside the play-off places in eighth place.

Any previous fixture between these sides has never ended 0-0.

Prediction:

Wigan 1-3 Wolves.
