Forest boss Montanier blasts referee after Owls loss

Nottingham Forest head coach Philippe Montanier directed his anger towards match referee Kevin Friend after seeing his side lose 2-1 at Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday afternoon according to the Nottingham Post.

The Reds took a first half lead through midfielder Henri Lansbury’s deflected strike before a second half double from Keiran Lee turned the game on it’s head to seal victory for Wednesday.

The home side won the match with an injury time goal but Forest boss Montanier felt that the referee got two key decisions wrong in the closing stages of the match. The Reds head coach believes that referee Friend awarded a throw in to the home side in error prior to the winning goal while he also feels that Ben Osborn had been fouled in the lead up to Lee’s decisive effort at the death.

“I am frustrated, sure. I am angry too, sure” Montanier told the Nottingham Post. “The first goal it was a throw-in for us and it is incredible that the referee or linesman did not give it. That lead to the corner that they equalised from.

“Then there was a very clear foul on Ben Osborn just before their winner. I have seen it on the video and it is very clear. It is the little details that are costing us.

“It was a tough game against Sheffield, but we showed good defensive commitment and we counter attacked very quickly.

We could have had a draw at the end of the game but these two decisions made a difference.”

The defeat leaves Nottingham Forest in 15th position in the SkyBet Championship table with 11 points from nine league matches.
