QPR: manager insists things are OK, fans think otherwise – reactions

Yesterday QPR manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink insisted that all was fine and dandy at Loftus Road, saying that fans must see the long game rather than the short-term.

The Rangers boss has faced the wrath of fans in the face of poor results, especially the 6-0 drubbing at home against a rampant Newcastle, and consecutive recent 2-1 losses to Huddersfield in the Sky Bet Championship and Premier League Sunderland in the EFL Cup.

After a somewhat sparkling 3-0 opening day win against Leeds United, QPR have dipped somewhat and find themselves in 16th place in the league table, with only a single win and a draw in their last six games. On this situation, Hasselbaink said to Get West London: “Let’s not forget we are only four points off the play-offs. Let’s also keep things in perspective. We are changing a lot, the budget has gone down drastically and we have brought in seven young players.”

Insisting that this is something QPR fans should bear in mind, Hasselbaink also insisted that all was looking good at Loftus Road saying in the same article: “There’s lots of panic, but we are fine!”

Now, a statement to that magnitude is always fair game to the players in a game of semantics with the word “fine” open to varied interpretation – something that QPR fans have seized upon on social media. Twitter has been a barometer of fan reaction in the space of 140 characters before in matters like this and reaction to Hasselbaink’s ‘fine’ claims is no different.

Tongue-in-cheek maybe but the sarcasm drips from this fan.

Having a brew will make everyone realise that all is good at Loftus Road.

This QPR fan draws parallels with other ‘it’ll be alright if we take stock’ merchants like QPR owner Tony Fernandes.

Yes. It’s true that Rome wasn’t built in a day, but this did happen in one night in the mid-Atlantic.

No, it looks like QPR fans are definitely NOT placated by manager Hasselbaink’s insistence that all things are good in West London.
