Wednesday keeper suffers injury in training

Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Joe Wildsmith is set for a spell on the sidelines after sustaining a finger injury in training according to the Sheffield Star.

The 20 year old Sheffield born stopper picked up the injury during first team training on Friday morning and after undergoing an assessment it is understood that the youngster may face a short spell out of action.

Wednesday fan Wildsmith has been with The Owls since a young age with the player signing his first professional deal with the club in November 2013.

The youngster made his first team debut in August 2015 in a 4-1 victory over SkyBet League Two club Mansfield Town in the League Cup First Round. Wildsmith went on to record impressive clean sheets against Premier League clubs Newcastle United and Arsenal in his debut first team campaign with the club.

The young keeper made 14 appearances for The Owls last season while Wildsmith made his first appearance this season in the 2-1 EFL Cup defeat at Cambridge United.

The player has already represented England on the international stage at Under 20s level while the youngster has also received a call up to the Under 21s set up.

Wildsmith has spent time on loan at non league Alfreton Town and Wednesday’s South Yorkshire rivals Barnsley during his time at Hillsborough.
