Gillingham will not roll over for Tottenham Hotspur

Gillingham head coach Justin Edinburgh has insisted to the Kent Messenger that they will not roll over and be beaten when they face Tottenham Hotspur this week.

The Gills have got one of the toughest tasks in the EFL Cup this week as they will be forced to travel to White Hart Lane to face Tottenham this week, the team that finished 3rd in the Premier League last season. It is widely expected that Tottenham will ease to the next round of the cup and that Gillingham will not pose much of a test for the Champions League side.

But Edinburgh has said Gillingham will be going for the win and he has extra reason to be excited for this fixture. He was actually part of the Tottenham team that won the League Cup back in 1999 and even he admits it will be an emotional fixture for him, though Edinburgh has insisted the focus will be on his team rather than himself.

He said: “We’re not going there for the evening out. Whatever team we face it is going to be fantastic. We want to go and achieve something. It’s a big ask but we saw in the last round it can be achieved.”

“The night is about Gillingham. It’s about the players. They got us there and they are the ones who are going to try and cause another upset.”

Gillingham have already beaten one Premier League this season as they defeated Watford in the second round of the EFL Cup to get this far.
