Villa new boy Kodjia happy to join ‘a better team’

Aston Villa new boy Jonathan Kodjia has confirmed that he joined the club as he believes that Villa are ‘a better team’ than former club Bristol City according to the Bristol Post.

The 26 year old Ivorian international striker left Ashton Gate to join Aston Villa in the lead up to transfer deadline day for a reported transfer fee of £11 million although the deal could rise to up to £15 million should the player’s performances trigger a number of financial clauses at Villa Park.

Since joining Aston Villa, Kodjia has scored a sublime bicycle kick for the Ivory Coast in a recent African Cup of Nations qualifying match while he opened his Villa goal account against Brentford in midweek with a superb solo run and curling finish.

The striker has been recently been speaking with the Birmingham Mail about his big money move to Villa Park and Kodjia has admitted that while he respects former club Bristol City, Aston Villa is ‘a better team and better club’ in his mind.

Kodjia moved to the SkyBet Championship last summer when the player joined Bristol City from French club Angers for a transfer fee believed to be in the region of £2 million. The striker soon excelled in English football with Kodjia netting 20 goals in just 52 appearances for The Robins, a record which was simply too good for Aston Villa to ignore.
