Birmingham City v Sheffield Wednesday – Match Preview

These two sides meet in the late fixture at St Andrews on Saturday (17th), with the game being shown live on Sky Sports.

Team news:

Birmingham look like they might still be without their goalkeeper, Tomasz Kuszczak. The former Manchester United keeper missed The Blues trip to Reading on Tuesday, having picked up a calf injury. Adam Legzdins will again deputise; should the polish international not med

Robert Tesche is also a major doubt for The Blues after he left the field in the second half at the Madejski. The German midfielder joined Birmingham in the summer; signing a three-year-deal, having previously enjoyed a loan spell at St Andrews in 2014/15.

Sheffield Wednesday will be without Sam Hutchinson after the former Chelsea defender was sent off in The Owls victory against Bristol City on Tuesday night.

Glenn Loovens will be pressing for his first start of the season after he recently returned following his ankle surgery in the summer. The captain joined the steel-city club in 2013 after a short spell with Spanish side, Real Zaragoza.

Form guides:

Following their draw against Reading on Tuesday night, Birmingham currently sit in the playoffs, having accumulated twelve points from their opening seven fixtures. They have, however, failed to beat Wednesday in any of their last five meetings, with Wednesday also inflicting a double over the Blues, last season.

Birmingham’s chances will depend a lot on the performance of striker, Clayton Donaldson, who has scored all of their last three goals in all competitions.

Sheffield Wednesday go into this fixture looking for their first win on the road since April 2nd. They are, however, unbeaten in their last three games and last year’s play-off finalists find themselves eleventh after the opening seven.

Nevertheless, they will fancy their chances in this fixture having not lost any of  their last three games. Last year’s playoff finalist runners-up find themselves eleventh after the opening seven.

Prediction:

Birmingham 1-1 Sheffield Wednesday.
