Phil Parkinson sends DVD of referee howlers to chief ref

Bolton Wanderers head coach Phil Parkinson has revealed to the Bolton News that he has sent a DVD of refereeing errors to the referee’s chief David Allison.

While the Lancashire side have had a very strong start to the season following their relegation from the Sky Bet Championship and are currently on top of Sky Bet League One after going unbeaten for the first seven games of the year, there has still been some issues. The coaching staff and the fans are angry at the standard of refereeing in the division and believe it could have cost them results which may end up being vital towards the end of the season in what is sure to be competitive promotion race.

And after weeks of this happening, Parkinson finally couldn’t take anymore and compiled a DVD of the five major mistakes which have cost them this season and sent it to the referee’s chief David Allison. He hopes that this can mean a change and so he doesn’t have to go to the press every week and moan about referees, something he doesn’t want to do.

In the pre-match press conference for the game against Walsall, Parkinson said: “There are a lot of managers in the Premier League moaning about hard luck stories but if you look at some of the ones we haven’t got, it’s almost laughable,”

“I’m conscious of the fact that I don’t want to appear in front of the press and be talking about referees every time – but we felt it had got to the stage where we had to say something.

“You go back to Mark Davies being booked for diving against Fleetwood when he was clearly fouled, Madine against Southend, and then Proctor on Saturday when a bloke came from nowhere as he was about to hit the ball and flattened him, also the fantastic save the Blackpool centre-half made from Liam Trotter.

“We sent it off and just asked whether we were moaning about them or whether we had clear justification to be aggrieved?

“We wanted him to see the chain of decisions. We have cleared it up with Dave Allison now, got it off our chests a bit.

“Me and Simon Marland – who is very experienced in these matters and has dealt with referees here for years – came in on Monday morning and just agreed we needed to flag things up.”
