Peterborough United defender demands improvement

Peterborough United’s Northern Irish defender Michael Smith has said that the team are working on holding onto leads in training.

The Posh are currently sixth in the League One table, but would have been top if they’d held onto two home leads in the last two weeks.

The four points they’ve dropped would have been enough to overtake current leaders Bolton Wanderers on goal difference, and Michael Smith insists there will be improvement in that department.

“We have to work on seeing games out better,” Smith said in an interview with the Peterborough Telegraph.
“We will always score goals, but clearly we have to be better at stopping opponents scoring as well.”
Posh have kept just one clean sheet so far this season, and that came in the victory at rivals MK Dons.
Smith also acknowledged that the squad are happy with how they’re playing at the moment.
“Without those two late goals we would have been top of the table right now so it shows how close we are to being where we want to be,” said the defender.

“We are playing good football, the mood in the camp is brilliant and we can’t wait for the next match to come along.”

The next match that Smith eludes to is Saturday’s trip to Sheffield United, who are currently on their best run of the season.
