Lee Johnson backs defensive duo

Lee Johnson has come out in support of Richard O’Donnell and Aden Flint after the two were at fault for the goals at Rotherham on Saturday.

The pair were to blame for gifting Rotherham a 2-0 advantage at the New York Stadium on Saturday, but Johnson has said he will keep faith with them for the Sheffield Wednesday game.

The Bristol City boss was quick to point out that the goals came because of a lack of “concentration and communication,” but stated that they were honest mistakes.
“The two players in question have been absolutely brilliant for the club since I came in, so I’m not going to start criticizing them because that would be bad management on my part,” Johnson said.
“If it happens over and over again, then yes we’ll have to look at it, but just once, it’s an honest mistake. If you criticize an honest mistake, you start to lose the support on the dressing room.”
The defensive pair was saved, as goals from Tammy Abraham and Bobby Reid salvaged a point for Johnson’s men.
They’ll be looking to tighten up defensively for their trip to Sheffield Wednesday tonight, and boss Lee Johnson has encouraged his players to start quickly, having scored the opening goal in just one of their Championship games so far this season.
