Former England under-16 defender, Ryan Inniss, has been jailed for 14 weeks following after pleading guilty to a criminal offense
Inniss, who is currently on loan from Crystal Palace following his deadline day switch, had yet to make an appearance for the Essex side before the news broke on Friday. The on-loan defender has represented England at youth level was sentenced at Bexley Magistrates’ Court, according to ITV news, on Friday.
For now, he will remain unavailable for selection and will miss the Shrimpers away fixture at Scunthorpe United this weekend.
The young defender has so far made 32 appearances in the Football League following six previous loan spells. This included two spells at Port Vale, under their previous manager, Rob Page.
At Vale, however, he was limited to just 20 appearances in his two spells with the Stoke-On-Trent outfit, during a period of his career that was damaged by a frequent appearance on the treatment table; which lead to Page, himself, labelling him as the ‘unluckiest player he has ever come across’.
This news will come as a big blow to his current manager, Phil Brown whose struggling Shrimpers are currently on a poor run and are without a win in their previous four attempts.
Inniss is understood to be appealing his sentence on Monday.
