Aston Villa star withdraws from international duty injured

Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish has withdrew from the England Under-21 side because of injury. The 20-year-old wide-man however is expected to be fit for Sunday’s Championship clash against Nottingham Forest according to the Birmingham Mail.

A statement released on The FA website revealed that Grealish had returned to Aston Villa ‘for further treatment’. It is only understood to be a knock which has forced the Solihull-born winger to return to Villa Park. He therefore won’t be available for England Under-21 manager Gareth Southgate, a former Villa defender, for Tuesday’s clash with Norway.

The player will still be assessed in the run-up to this weekend’s home encounter with Forest before being given the complete go-ahead to feature for Roberto Di Matteo. Grealish has become a key member and regular starter under Di Matteo. With the transfer window now closed, there will be no more additional competition for Grealish in the wide areas. Nevertheless, he still understands he’ll need to continue to perform to keep his place, especially after he lost his way to a degree last season.

Grealish has netted two goals so far this season, his most recent being a well-placed volley in last weekend’s away loss at Bristol City. It is certainly a goal worth checking out if you haven’t already seen it, so please do check out the video below!
