5 Championship clubs who may benefit from international break

Although two thirds of the Sky Bet Football League remain undisturbed throughout the international break, fans of Sky Bet Championship clubs have to miss a week of footballing action before seeing there clubs fight it out again.

Albeit for most this is an unwelcome occasion, and one met with frustration, however, for some clubs, and there fans alike, the international break provides a perfect platform for a kick on in form, or a catalyst to hinder opposition, so here are 5 Sky Bet Championship clubs, who, in my opinion can benefit from the international break.

Fulham

Fulham currently sit second in the league, with impressive wins over title favourites Newcastle, as well as Blackburn and Preston.

Fulham, who were relegated to the Championship in 2014, have finished towards the bottom of the table in all 3 of there seasons in the league since relegation.

However, under the guidance of former Watford manager Slavisa Jokanovic, the cottagers have made an impressive start to the season, and with the momentum that current leaders Huddersfield may have lost during the break, a win against Birmingham next weekend could see the former Europa League finalists hit the summit of the Sky Bet Championship.

Norwich

The Canaries were tipped as many people’s favourites for automatic promotion this year along with Newcastle.

However, despite impressing on the opening day with a 4-1 destruction of Blackburn, and beating Bristol City, Norwich have failed to make as big an impact as expected, and head into the international break following a 3-0 defeat to Birmingham.

Despite this, the international break could come at a valuable time for the Norfolk club. With new signings such as Nelson Oliveira needing time to settle and stake a claim for a starting position, the break could allow the players to gel and prepare to meet expectation.

Aston Villa

Like Norwich, Villa were expected to do well considering the history and size of the club, and the squad they have at there disposal.

However, Roberto Di Matteo’s men have not started like a team fighting to win the league.

They currently sit 16th with just one win, and the break may see them contemplate on where it has gone wrong, and evaluate how to change that.

With a wealth of attaching options, including new boys Ross McCormick and Jonathan Kodjia, as well as Rudy Gestede and Jordan Ayew, I believe Villa will benefit from the break and find a run of form.

Leeds

As with any new season, Leeds are talked about as possible contenders, and fans have huge expectations.

This summer Elland Road has been greeted with a wealth of new faces, including manager Gary Monk and his assistant Pep Clotet, which undoubtedly means Leeds need time before they will be playing at there full potential.

Although the whites haven’t started well, they did defeat Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 away from home, and showed glimpses of what they can do under the former Swansea manager, and the break could provide much needed time for the new faces to settle in and really get stuck in.

Blackburn

The former Premier League champions have been a shadow of their former selves at the start of this season. With just one point from the first five games Owen Coyle has a mountain to climb already to try and steer Blackburn away from relegation.

The Lancashire club have been clueless in attack, fragile in defence,  and off the pitch battles with the clubs owners the Venky’s have certainly not helped so the break has come at a welcome time for them.

This time off could enable Coyle to abolish the negativity surrounding the club, and a positive result against QPR next weekend could be the catalyst for a change in form at Ewood Park.
