Peterborough United Vs Swindon Town – match preview

Peterborough United entertain Swindon Town on Saturday in a game which will be shown live on Sky.

The game kicks off at 12:15pm, and gives both sides an opportunity to broadcast their talents for the world to see.

Both sides have made a solid start to the campaign, with Posh sitting 7th on nine points, just two points clear of Swindon, who do have a game in hand.

Team News:

Peterborough have just one confirmed absentee. Vice Captain Michael Smith is on international duty, and is expected to be replaced by Hayden White if he can pass a fitness test. Grant McCann is expected to give debuts to all three of his deadline day signings, including goalkeeper Luke McGee, who is expected to prevent Mark Tyler from making his 800th professional appearance.

Swindon have been hit a lot harder by international call-ups. Yaser Kasim, Jamie Sendles-White and Jordan Stewart are all linking up with their countries and will miss Saturday’s game. Manager Luke Williams is expected to give a debut to new signing Sean Murray.

Previous Meetings:

Last season’s fixture between the two at the ABAX finished 2-1 to Swindon. Posh took an early lead thanks to a Marcus Maddison penalty, but a Nicky Ajose free kick and a close range strike from Michael Doughty helped Swindon earn all three points. Including this game, Swindon have won three in the last four games with Peterborough. They’ve lost just once in their last seven meetings with the Posh.

Key Players:

For Peterborough, it’s got to be Marcus Maddison. He’s been excellent so far this season, scoring and assisting goals for fun. He may not be everybody’s cup of tea, but without him Posh would be a lot worse off. He’s got a wand of a left foot, and with the Sky cameras at the ABAX, he’ll be determined to show everyone exactly what he can do.

With Yaser Kasim away on international duty, someone else will need to step up. I think Sean Murray could play a crucial role in Saturday’s game. The midfielder has just joined the club from Watford, but is expected to go straight into Luke Williams’ starting XI. Without Kasim, Swindon could be lacking in that midfield, but if Murray steps up to the plate, there will be no issue.

Tips/Bets:

Despite a lot of previous success in this fixture, Peterborough United are odds on favourites to take all three points in this League One encounter.

With 21Bet, you can get Peterborough to win at 5/6, whilst a win for Swindon is 10/3.

With regards to first goalscorer, I believe Peterborough will be first to strike, and my money would be on Marcus Maddison at 11/2. If you fancy a Swindon player to bag first, Jonathon Obika is 15/2, whilst Nathan Delfouneso is 8/1. If you’re feeling daring, you can get Marcus Maddison to score a hat-trick at 40/1. That’s got to be worth a couple of quid surely?

Correct score is always a difficult one to call, but both sides are good going forward, and seemingly struggle defensively. I think a high scoring game is on the cards, and I’m going for a 4-2 victory to Posh. The odds for this are 40/1.
