The Championship Weekend Preview

Millwall v Blackburn Rovers

Millwall are in serious trouble, propping up the table and losing ground on their rivals all the time. Blackburn continue to hover below the immediate play off mix and with games running out will need to make their charge soon before it is too late.

It does not look good for Millwall. Just 1 win their last 10 games, whilst all their closest rivals have been picking up results against the odds. On Tuesday, the Lions could only have themselves to blame for their defeat at the hands of Birmingham. After conceding early they got back on level terms on the half hour, but almost immediately they let in a second and a third soon followed after the break. A late penalty from Simeon Jackson acted as just a consolation as Millwall’s defensive insecurities had been there downfall in another game.  They have the worst defensive record in the Championship, letting in 67 goals in their 38 games. Charlton superior goal difference means Millwall are effectively 4 points from safety and with just 8 games to go they have got to get a run going sooner rather than later.

Championship
Rudy Gestede

Following 3 successive defeats and the risk of their season drawing to an uneventful conclusion, Blackburn have raised their game in the past two weeks. A big win at Huddersfield was backed up by a superb performance against leaders Leicester in which Rovers should have probably taken the win and ended Leicester’s unbeaten run. However, with confidence high Gary Bowyer’s men were involved in a classic at Vicarage Road, snatching a point in added time after going behind minutes earlier. Just 9 games remain for Blackburn and they sit 8 points behind Reading in 6th, although their game in hand against Brighton which takes place on Tuesday could prove vital. The form of Rudy Gestede has really impressed in the past month or so providing much need support for main man Jordan Rhodes. Gestede has 4 goals from 12 games since signing from Cardiff in January and is this game’s key man.
