Barnsley sign Celtic winger on loan

Barnsley have signed Saidy Janko on loan from Celtic for the season as confirmed by the club website.

While the winger is only 20-years-old, he has been able to gather a lot of experience in the few years he has been playing professional football and has already featured in competitions such as the Champions League, Europa League and the Scottish Premiership. Now he will get to return to the Sky Bet Championship after moving to Barnsley on a temporary deal that will last until the end of the season.

As well as playing in illustrious competitions like those mentioned above, Janko has also got pedigree having been called up to play for the Switzerland U21s on a number of occasions. He also came through the Manchester United academy and played alongside the likes of Marcus Rashford and Ashley Fletcher, who spent part of last season loan with the Tykes. He also got experience of the Championship when he went on loan to Bolton Wanderers at the end of the 2014/15 season and impressed fans at the Macron Stadium after scoring a cracker against Fulham.

After the deal was completed, Barnsley head coach Paul Heckingbottom said: “I’m delighted to welcome Saidy to Oakwell as he represents a huge signing for the Football Club. Not only has he progressed through one of the most prestigious youth systems in England at Manchester United, but he’s also performed on some of the biggest stages in European football.

“He is powerful, robust and will provide us with a whole new dimension out on the wing. We’ve seen what he can do consistently in the Scottish Premiership and I believe he’s got what it takes to make a huge impact at Championship Level. Make no mistake, this is a fantastic acquisition for us and I can’t wait to start working with him.”
