Bristol City have bid rejected for Wolves frontman

Lee Johnson’s Bristol City side have had a bid rejected from Wolves for their striker Joe Mason – Sky journalist Pete O’Rourke has tweeted.

With Jonathan Kodjia departing Ashton Gate for a club record fee, then Tammy Abraham withdrawing from international duty with England U20’s due to an ankle injury – veteran Aaron Wilbraham and new signing Gustavv Engvall are currently the only recognised talismans at Lee Johnson’s disposal.

Mason, who only joined Wolves back in January, is renowned for his clinical finishing ability and would’ve been a shrewd acquisition for Bristol City, as the club look to take their impressive early season form past the first international break.

The early season form sees City currently occupying a play-off place – a remarkable feat seeing that they were in a relegation battle prior to Lee Johnson taking over near the second half of the last campaign.

The rejection from Wolves regarding Mason could have serious implications around the red part of Bristol; at this current moment of time City don’t have a recognised strike force; something that every successful Championship side requires.

Abraham is currently getting treatment for his ankle injury in Bristol, the extent of the injury that the prolific Chelsea man sustained in the match against Aston Villa last weekend is currently unknown however.

Abraham has been essential to all of the clubs success so far this term since joining on loan from Chelsea – netting 5 times in 7 outings for the club.

It would seem that it would be too late for a deal to materialise now for Mason – who had spells at Plymouth Argyle and Cardiff City prior to joining Wolves earlier this year.

It is unclear whether Bristol City have any other moves currently open.
