Sheffield United sign international defender on loan

Sheffield United have completed the signing of Burnley left-back Daniel Lafferty, the club’s website has confirmed.

27-year-old Lafferty has struggled to find game time with Burnley since he joined in 2012, leading him to have loan spells with Rotherham United and Oldham Athletic.

The Northern-Irish international becomes the Blades’s second signing of the day after Ethan Ebanks-Landell, who moved to Brammal Lane from Wolves on a season-long loan.

Chris Wilder has also sent two players out on loan so far today – Kieran Wallace joined Fleetwood for the season and striker Marc McNulty made a switch to fellow Yorkshire side Bradford City.

Daniel Lafferty mainly plays left-back and is known for his pace and ability to charge down the left plank with his impressive dribbling skills.

Lafferty excelled in his youth career with Oxford United stars and earned himself a move to Scottish giants Celtic, where he failed to make an appearance and after a loan spell to Ayr United, he eventually made a permanent exit to Derry City.

He impressed at the Irish club and subsequently earned a move to Burnley in 2012.

Daniel Lafferty was part of the Burnley squad that was promoted to the Premier League in the 2013/14 Championship campaign.
