Derby striker set for move to Championship rival

West London Sport reports that Derby County striker Chris Martin is set to seal a loan move to Championship rivals Fulham. The Craven Cottage club have been looking to boost their striker options ever since Ross McCormack and Moussa Dembele left for pastures new over the summer.

Rams boss Nigel Pearson has grew frustrated by their lack of goals in the first few weeks of the season, leading to the former Leicester City manager swooping for James Wilson and Matej Vydra. This has seemingly pushed 27-year-old Martin down the pecking order, but Fulham will take advantage of this opportunity.

The Scotland international, who is in Gordon Strachan’s squad for the game with Malta, has been the number one transfer target for Slavisa Jokanovic this summer. In total, he has played 142 league games for Derby, scoring 53 goals in the process. For you mathematicians out there, that works out as roughly a goal every two and a bit games (don’t hold us to that!).

He has been on the books at the iPro Stadium since joining from Norwich City in 2013 and he has featured in all of their Championship matches this season so far. He will now compete with the likes of Matt Smith an Cauley Woodrow for a place in Jokanovic’s starting eleven after the international break.
