Luton reject £750K bid from Championship duo for midfielder

Luton Town have rejected two bids, believed to be worth £750,000, from Championship duo Barnsley and Brentford for midfielder Cameron McGeehan according to The Mirror. The 21-year-old has enjoyed a fine start to the new season, netting four goals in seven games.

Earlier today, Hatters boss Nathan Jones pounced for Newcastle United midfielder Alex Gilliead on loan, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he has been signed to replace in-demand McGeehan. The League Two hope have signalled their intention to keep the player at Kenilworth Road.

McGeehan, who has three caps for the Northern Ireland Under-21s, sealed a permanent move to Luton a year ago following a successful loan spell. He celebrated promotion out of the National League with the club in 2014, winning the Club Young Player of the Season Award in the process.

His exploits have attracted the attentions of both Paul Heckingbottom and Dean Smith, who are certainly two Championship managers that expect to be busy on Deadline Day. They are also two managers that frequently look towards the lower leagues to find talent, so it is no surprise to see them interested in the highly-rated 21-year-old. However Luton have made it clear that they don’t want to sell, £750,000 is an excellent amount of money for any League Two club, but clearly not enough for Luton to let their star man depart.
