League One winger hands in transfer request

Sky Sports understands that Chesterfield winger Gboly Ariyibi has handed in a transfer request with the League One club. This comes on the back of a bid from Championship side Barnsley being rejected. Crystal Palace, Brentford Derby County and Sheffield Wednesday are also said to be interested in the tricky wide man.

The 21-year-old American has played his football with the Spireites since joining on a free in 2014 after previously being a free agent. Then manager Paul Cook snapped him up, and broke into the side last season. His head has seemingly been turned amid interest from a higher level.

Manager Danny Wilson is desperately keen to keep the player at the club following a bright start to the season, but he’ll be wary that every player has his price. With the player now seemingly keen on leaving, perhaps it is inevitable that he may leave the League One club.

Dean Smith at Brentford is clearly a fan, especially after lodging a £800,000 bid according to Sky Sports. Paul Heckingbottom at Barnsley is just as keen as well. The USA Under-23 international is seen as a player with a very bright future, and it remains to be seen where he will be playing his football this time tomorrow.
