Aston Villa sign Bristol City hotshot in £15 million deal

Aston Villa have this afternoon announced the signing of striker Jonathan Kodjia from SkyBet Championship rivals Bristol City according to the Birmingham Mail.

The 26 year old France born Ivorian international striker is believed to have moved to Villa Park for a transfer fee of £11 million although that figure could rise to as much as £15 million depending upon the player’s success with the Midlands club.

The deal includes a sell on clause which will see Bristol City receive a percentage of any future transfer fee received by Aston Villa for the player. Kodjia has signed a lucrative four year deal at Villa Park.

Kodjia joined former club Bristol City last summer from French club Angers for a £2 million transfer fee. The striker soon burst onto the scene in the SkyBet Championship with the player enjoying a fruitful first season in English football scoring 20 goals in just 48 appearances for Bristol City in all competitions.

It is thought that Aston Villa have beaten off competition from a number of other clubs to sign the striker. Kodjia had been linked with Derby County, Hull City and West Bromwich Albion in recent days but it was Aston Villa who emerged victorious from the battle for the player’s services.

Kodjia could make his Aston Villa debut against Nottingham Forest at Villa Park on Sunday 11 September.
