Norwich City: Canaries in for noted Benfica striker

Norwich City expect to complete a permanent deal for former Nottingham Forrest loanee, Benfica striker Nelson Oliveira, according to a report from ITV  news.

After being relegated from the Premier League last season, Norwich City have been tipped as one of the favorites to secure promotion, and with new additions such as Sergi Canos and Alex Pritchard to increase quality and depth to the team, the club are making the right strides to be in contention. However, more arrivals could yet be on their way to Carrow Road

Although the Canaries fell short at Birmingham this weekend, they have started the season reasonably well, with two wins and two draws in their first four games, including an opening day 4-1 demolition of Blackburn Rovers away from home. However, according to reports, the club want to bolster their attack with Portuguese striker Nelson Oliveira.

The 25-year-old, who came up through Portuguese club Santa Maria’s academy, spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest where he scored 9 goals in 25 appearances, and, is now a strong target for Norwich Manager Alex Neil.

The former Swansea loanee has made 16 appearances for his national team, scoring one goal, and could provide much-needed back up for current Norwich striker Cameron Jerome.

According to the report he traveled to Carrow Road for a medical on Thursday, with the deal looking to be finalised a day or two after.

With the international break coming up, the Norfolk based club may want to act fast, to ensure he can have time to settle before the upcoming fixture against Cardiff on the 10th August.
