Sheffield United planning swoop for defensive pairing

Sheffield United are planning to make bids for Wigan Athletic’s Craig Morgan and Northampton Town’s David Buchanan according to a report from HITC Sport.

The Blades managed to pick up their first win of the season on Saturday when they beat Oxford United but they are still looking to strengthen their squad so they end up at the right end of the Sky Bet League One table at the end of the season. Their head coach Chris Wilder has decided that signing some new defenders will make sure their defence is less leaky and has targeted two players.

The first player they are looking to sign is Craig Morgan from Wigan Athletic. Wilder has been interested in him all summer but it could be difficult to lure him to Bramall Lane as he has started all of Wigan’s games on their return to the Sky Bet Championship. But the Latics may be willing to let him go if they secure a replacement before transfer deadline day.

The other player they are looking to sign David Buchanan from Northampton Town. Wilder is very familiar with him having coached him at the Cobblers last season as he guided them to promotion from Sky Bet League Two. He is a regular for Northampton and Wilder will be hoping their pre-existing relationship can persuade him to switch to the Blades.

United will be hoping to sign these two players as soon as possible so they can possibly feature in the EFL Cup game against Premier League champions Leicester City on Tuesday night (30th August).
