Hull City agree a fee for Derby County midfielder

Hull City have agreed a fee with Derby County to sign Jeff Hendrick according to a report from ESPN.

The Tigers had been planning to sign Ryan Mason from Tottenham Hotspur but that deal hit a snag which caused Hull to look at other targets. The man they decided to go for was Jeff Hendrick and it was reported yesterday that they made a bid of £7m as they looked to beat Burnley to their signature. And it appears as if that bid was good enough for Derby as they have accepted an offer and talks between Hull and Hendrick will begin.

While this news will be very disappointing to Derby fans who will be losing one of their best players, it may be Burnley who have been made the worse off by the acceptance of this bid. They have been negotiating with Derby over a potential fee for Hendrick for the last few weeks and were hoping to bring him in as a replacement for Joey Barton who left to join Rangers during the summer. Now though they will have to turn to other targets, with reports suggesting that they are going to make a bid for Brighton and Hove Albion’s Dale Stephens.

Hendrick, a 24-year-old midfielder, has only played competitive football for Derby since making his début in 2011 and has gone on to make 214 appearances and score 27 goals. He has also been capped by the Republic of Ireland 25 times and helped them get to the last sixteen in Euro 2016.
