Leeds United: striker rumoured inbound – Premier League player named

Journalist and radio commentator Joe Rawson mentioned in a tweet (below) that Leeds United fans could look forward to the arrival of a new striker “before Wednesday.”

With the transfer window set to close that day, Leeds United fans are desperate to see new blood come into the team in a timely fashion to allow them to gel. This aspect of the players ‘gelling’ might prove to be vital as the Whites look to reclaim a season which has started with United plagued by the usual inconsistencies.

Top of the fan wish list has been a striker, even though Leeds have brought in £3m man Kemar Roofe and £2m Swede Marcus Antonsson. Roofe has not had a full run of games to get up to goal-scoring speed, Antonsson showing in flashes that he is going to be a valuable player this Sky Bet Championship campaign.

Despite these arrivals, fans still feel that another striker, as intimated by Joe Rawson, is necessary to provide both depth and challenge to the current first-team squad.

When Rawson posted his tweet, it was  a case of ‘person unknown’ as to the identity of the striker heading LS11 way by Wednesday. However, on the Sun website, the newspaper drop a name in the mix and it is the name of a player who United once coveted but were beaten to.

The Sun say that “West Ham starlet, Ashley Fletcher, is wanted on loan by Leeds, who tried to sign him when he left Man Utd this summer.”

If this proves to be the case then many Leeds fans will be rejoicing at the news that a player their team chased so hard to bring in after he left Manchester United is willing to drop into the Championship, admittedly on what will likely be a season loan.
