Leeds United: agent speaks out on Verboom ‘transfer’

Twelve days ago, news came via both the Belgian daily publication Het Laaste Nieuws and its lead reporter Pieter-Jan Calcoen (Tweet – below) that Leeds United had reached a deal to sign Zulte Waregem’s left-back Bryan Verboom.

Het Laaste Nieuws said at the time that Leeds United had reached an agreement, in principle, for the transfer of Verboom, who had watched recent games from the bench as Zulte Waregem’s manager Francky Dury has favoured other options. HLN say that they “know Verboom has reached a personal agreement with Leeds United. It would just be waiting for the signatures to completely finalise the transfer.”

However, that was it – no movement; an essentially constipated transfer agreement.

Calcoen said in a further post to his timeline that “Zulte Waregem are awaiting the green light from Leeds United to complete a deal for defender Bryan Verboom.” That green light has been stuck now for so long that the Highways Agency have been out and attended to it.

However, in news breaking today, it seems that there may be clarification at last to the ‘deal’ that was struck betweeen Zulte Waregem and Leeds United. According to HITC Sport, who have spoken to his agent Ben Kouider Mustafa from Sports Beninvest, the lack of movement is all down to Leeds United.

According to HITC Sport Mustafa said that: “Leeds no longer respond to the agent that mediated the transfer. Leeds said that they would first have to sell the left back to buy Verboom. He is ready to sign for Leeds! The ball is in their camp, we were all done, Leeds’ time to react.”

So Leeds fans, it seems that one of the final nails in the coffin that is this transfer deal has been firmly placed by Leeds United who have repeatedly insisted that Charlie Taylor, first-choice Whites left-back, is going nowhere during this transfer window.

If that’s the case, seems there’ll be no Verboom boom to shake the room at Elland Road and Leeds fans will have to put those terrace chants on hold.
