Bristol City

PREVIEW: Bristol City v Aston Villa

Bristol City face Aston Villa at Ashton Gate on Saturday afternoon with both clubs looking for a victory which will help them climb towards the top six in the SkyBet Championship.

The two mid table sides are separated by a single point in the league table with the Play Off places well and truly within their sights.

Bristol City go into the match with no new injury problems following their extra time victory at Scunthorpe United in the EFL Cup in midweek. The Robins are set to welcome back full back Joe Bryan following his recovery from niggling groin and hip problems.

Aston Villa arrive at Ashton Gate with the club having had the luxury of a free midweek following their early EFL Cup exit in the competition’s First Round. Villa manager Roberto Di Matteo could hand debuts to new signings Ritchie De Laet and Mile Jedinak. Belgian defender De Laet joined the club from Premier League champions Leicester City while Australian midfielder Jedinak has been waiting for international clearance to play for the club since joining from Crystal Palace.

Bristol City face Aston Villa for the first time since the two clubs met in an FA Cup Fourth Round tie at Ashton Gate in 1982 with Villa recording a 1-0 win. The last time Bristol City beat Aston Villa at Ashton Gate was back in August 1978.
