£7million Championship striker linked with Hull & Derby

The Mirror reports that Hull City and Derby County could make a £7million move for Brentford striker Scott Hogan. Bess boss Dean Smith says that he is desperate for the player to stay but is wary of the rumoured interest in him.

The former Rochdale forward has suffered an injury hit spell since joining the Championship side in 2014. He missed a large chunk of last season because of this, but he made up for lost time by winning a place in Smith’s regular starting eleven this season so far. The 24-year-old has started every game this season, scoring the winning goal in the recent home victory over Nottingham Forest.

Hogan, who also played for Hyde, is a fans’ favourite at Griffin Park and former Walsall manager Smith says that he isn’t looking to move the player on,

“Scott Hogan is another major player for us. People were talking about him after only a couple of games this season.

“We want Scott around and we are happy that he is our player.”

It is well-documented that Hull are short on players, despite their excellent start to the Premier League season. Plus Nigel Pearson is keen on adding to his squad before next week’s transfer deadline, especially with his side struggling for goals in the first few games of the new campaign.

Brentford will be even keener to retain the services of Hogan considering the fact Alan Judge is said to be closing in on a move to big-spending Newcastle United. Although the Irishman is out injured, he is certainly the star player in Brentford’s squad. He has frequently been linked with a move away in recent seasons.
