Football League journeyman moves to his 13th club

Yeovil Town has signed striker Izale McLeod on a deal until the end of the season. Sky Bet League Two side Notts County had mutually agreed to terminate the striker of journeyman striker McLeod. The 31-year-old moved to Meadow Lane from Crawley Town for a six-figure sum. He hadn’t for the Magpies this season so far.

A statement on the official Notts County club website revealed that player and club came to this decision as the forward wished to ‘pursue opportunities elsewhere’. Last season he netted ten goals for Notts, who were the 12th club of McLeod’s career so far.

Yeovil boss Darren Way says McLeod is a player he has ‘kept his eyes on for a number of years’ and that he adds ‘a wealth of experience’ and ‘fantastic ability’.

McLeod himself said that Way was ‘the biggest factor’ in him agreeing to move to Huish Park.

He has over 450 games of league experience under his belt and has netted in excess of 150 goals as well. However he didn’t feature in the plans of manager John Sheridan this season. With the transfer deadline looming, he elected to leave the club to give him a better chance of securing a move. Yeovil soon pounced for the front man.

McLeod began his playing career at Derby County. After a successful spell at MK Dons he earned a £1.1million move to Charlton Athletic in August 2007. He would only score four goals for the Addicks and had several loan moves away during his time at The Valley. Several moves followed, most notably with Portsmouth, Barnet, a second stint at MK Dons and then Crawley.
