Cardiff close in on new goalkeeper

Bolton Wanderers goalkeeper Ben Amos is on the verge of signing for Cardiff City in a loan deal. According to The Bolton News, the former Manchester United youngster is expected to provide cover for David Marshall with the Sky Bet Championship club.

26-year-old Amos is second choice at the Macron Stadium under manager Phil Parkinson, who was appointed earlier this summer. Mark Howard is the number one keeper with the League One club, but Amos’ departure does now mean Parkinson is without senior cover for the ex-Sheffield United shotstopper.

Speaking of Sheffield United, they signed up Simon Moore from Cardiff, who had been acting as the understudy to Marshall with the Welsh club. Amos looks set to take on that mantle. He is one of the higher earning players with the Trotters, but will relish the chance to step up a league, even if he is likely to be mainly acting as a sub goalie.

The Macclesfield-born keeper as played over 40 times for Bolton since signing on a free transfer in 2015. Whilst at Man Utd, he had several loan spells away from Old Trafford. Included in those stints were spells at Hull City, Oldham Athletic and Carlisle United. It remains to be seen if the deal will go through this weekend, but it could all depend on if Parkinson signs a replacement in time.
