Aston Villa linked with move for Uruguayan striker

SkyBet Championship club Aston Villa are being linked with a move for Hull City striker Abel Hernandez according to the Birmingham Mail.

Villa owner Dr Tony Xia has recently told fans that the club are pursuing a ‘world class’ striker and that player is thought to be Hull City’s Uruguayan goal machine Hernandez.

Speculation regarding the striker’s future with the Premier League new boys has increased with Hernandez not being named in the Hull City side for their EFL Cup Second Round tie at Exeter City.

The 26 year old striker has also been linked with a return to Italy with the player having spent over five and a half years with Serie A club Palermo prior to his move to England. Hernandez does not have a buyout clause in his contract and has two years remaining on his current deal however Hull City are desperate for their player to remain with the club and have offered Hernandez an improved long term deal which would see him become The Tigers’ highest earner.

The striker joined Hull City in September 2014 for a club record £10 million transfer fee. Hernandez initially struggled to adapt to the English game with the player scoring just four goals in 27 appearances during his first season with the club but the striker bounced back last season scoring 22 goals in 45 appearances helping The Tigers secure their return to the top flight.
