Sheff Utd submit bid for League One rival defender

The Sheffield Star reports that Sheffield United have lodged a bid to sign defender Byron Webster from Sky Bet League One rivals Millwall. The centre back played as the Lions defeated the Blades 2-1 at The Den last weekend.

Star reported James Shield reports that the bid for the made was produced before the weekend’s League One encounter between the two clubs. The 29-year-old signed a new contract with Neil Harris’ club earlier this summer, but Chris Wilder still remains hopeful of snapping up the player.

It has been a bitterly disappointing start to the Wilder era at Bramall Lane. After four matches they at the League One table, collecting just one point so far. They also possess the worst goal difference in the league as well, and former Northampton Town boss Wilder believes he needs another defender to boost his squad.

Since signing in 2014, Webster, who was born in North Yorkshire, has played over 50 times for the club. He was part of the team which reached the League One Play-Off Final in May. He has started each of Millwall’s matches this season and netted in their opening day victory versus Oldham Athletic.

Webster is unlikely to be the only player that Wilder has targeted to improve his squad. Only days remain in the summer transfer window and Blades supporters remain hopeful that more new faces will arrive. Will Webster be one of those? Time will tell.
