Reading: manager confirms interest in Man Utd defender

According to the Express, Reading manager, and former Manchester United stalwart Jaap Stam, has confirmed his interest in taking Red Devil’s defender Tyler Blackett to the club.

With the depth chart at Old Trafford meaning that once highly rated youngster Blackett is struggling to re-break into the first-team set-up, Stam sees this as an opportunity to make a move for the youngster who spent last season on loan at Celtic. However, his season at Parkhead saw him make only eight appearances and the Bhoys’ new boss Brendan Rogers has decided against bringing Blackett back to the club.

Speaking to Get Reading, Stam gave an indication of coyness in a transfer that is said to be already at an advanced stage of talks. Blackett watched Reading’s game at the weekend against Brighton from an executive box, seeing his potential new side play to an impressive 2-2 draw against a more than handy Seagulls’ side.

However, when pressed on the issue of Blackett’s arrival at the Madejski, Jaap Stam side-stepped the question with ease. On Blackett himself, Stam said: ““I know Tyler, not personally, but I know what he can do – what type of player he is, the way he can play.”

Whilst lauding his qualities and style of play, Stam plays down whether the young Manchester United defender will follow Liam Moore through the door to become Reading’s 11th signing of the window. All that the Royals’ manager would commit to saying was: “We’ve shown our interest but I don’t know if we will succeed getting him to the club.”

Reading’s next game is against the MK Dons in the EFL Cup Second Round before a trip to Cardiff on Saturday in the Sky Bet Championship, a game that could see Manchester United youngster Tyler Blackett already signed up as a Reading player.
