Sheffield United and Fleetwood Town chase Barcelona-linked midfielder

Sheffield United and Fleetwood Town are both trying to sign highly-rated Liverpool midfielder Cameron Brannagan before the end of the transfer window, according to Sunday’s print edition of The Sun.

Brannagan was linked to Spanish sides Barcelona and Real Madrid back in June, with rumours that Liverpool could sell the 20 year-old to Spain this summer instead of loaning him out.  A move failed to materialise however and Liverpool are instead looking to get Brannagan more first-team football.

Wigan Athletic were very interested in signing the midfielder, and Brannagan was set to join the newly-promoted Championship club, until the deal hit a stumbling block.  Liverpool wanted a guarantee that Brannagan would play in at least 75% of games, which Wigan would not agree to and the deal broke down.

League One sides Fleetwood Town and Sheffield United are next in line for Brannagan, and either club could sign the midfielder this summer.

Sheffield United are willing to take Brannagan on loan, as Liverpool wish.  Fleetwood Town would prefer to sign the midfielder permanently however.  It is not known whether Liverpool would be open to a permanent deal, as the club rate Brannagan very highly and may not want to lose him.

Brannagan, 20, made nine appearances for Liverpool last season, including three in the Premier League.  If he can get more first-team football out on loan this season, he could come into the plans at Liverpool in a year’s time.
