Aston Villa: club announce Jedinak signing

In what was hardly a well-kept secret, Aston Villa have just unveiled Australian defensive midfielder Mile Jedinak as their new signing.

When I say ‘hardly a well-kept secret,’ Jedinak had been rumoured to be signing and was even pictured at Villa Park yesterday, evidenced by this post to Twitter by @TheTomNash (below)

Formerly on the books at Crystal Palace, where he arrived on a free transfer from Turkish side Gencerbirligi in August 2011, the 32-year-old Australian of Croatian descent has signed on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

Rated in the £4.25m bracket by website Transfermarkt, 63-cap, 12-goal midfielder arrives at Villa Park as the Midlands-based side look to bounce back to the Premier League at the first attempt after their dismal relegation season last time out.

Jedinak has played 179 games for Palace over the five seasons in the capital, including 90 Premier League games where he has scored six times and laid on five assists.

On the club website, Villa say that the club are “delighted” to announce the signing of the Australian captain who they describe as “influential,” before going on to advise supporters that Jedinak will not be eligible to play for Villa until “EFL and FA registration is complete” and that the granting of this set of permissions is based on whether he passes the requirements for UK Visa and Immigration documentation.
