Hibernian set to loan Birmingham City midfielder

Scottish Championship club Hibernian are on the verge of securing Birmingham City attacking midfielder Andrew Shinnie on loan according to the Birmingham Mail.

Blues manager Gary Rowett has confirmed that the player is likely to complete a season long loan move to Easter Road later on Wednesday with Hibernian having been in talks with the SkyBet Championship club for a number of days.

The 27 year old Aberdeen born midfielder joined Birmingham City back in April 2013 and has gone on to make 73 appearances for The Blues and has scored six goals but has found opportunities at St Andrews limited of late with the player having spent the second half of last season on loan at Rotherham United.

Shinnie made just three appearances during his spell at Rotherham United and looks now set to resurrect his career back in Scotland with Hibernian. Hibs are looking to secure a return to the Scottish Premiership this season after a three year absence and manager Neil Lennon has hailed the potential signing of the player as a major coup for the club.

Shinnie started his career with Rangers and the once capped Scottish international also enjoyed spells with Dundee and Inverness Caledonian Thistle before moving south to join Birmingham City.
