Wigan in the market for versatile League One performer

The Bolton News understands that the Sky Bet Championship club hoping to lure Josh Vela away from Bolton Wanderers is Wigan Athletic. Cardiff City did try to sign the player in January, but Gary Caldwell is a big fan of the 22-year-old and wants to bring him to the DW Stadium.

Vela is now under the management of Phil Parkinson at the Macron Stadium and has started all three of their games so far this season. He is now back in his preferred midfield position, having spent most of last season at right back. It is believed that Wigan are on the look out for a right back.

The versatile Vela has now entered the final season of his contract with the Sky Bet League One club. It has previously been reported that Bolton are looking to re-sign Craig Davies from Wigan, however it is understood that no such swap deal involving Vela is being considered at this stage.

QPR full back James Perch is also believed to be a target of Caldwell with the Latics, however wages are believed to be a major stumbling block before any deal can take place. Therefore they have focused their attentions on Vela, who has made over 70 appearances for the club since breaking into the first team.
