Aston Villa have bid for West Brom defender accepted

Aston Villa have had an offer for West Bromwich Albion’s James Chester accepted according to a report from Press Association Sport via Eurosport.

While Villa have already signed one defender this summer, Tommy Elphick from Bournemouth who was soon named as club captain, their defensive frailties were on show last night as they fell to an embarrassing 3-1 defeat to Sky Beat League Two team Luton Town. In the post match press conference, their head coach Roberto Di Matteo admitted that they needed to sign some new defenders.

And they have moved quick as reports now indicate that they have had an offer accepted for Chester. There has been a longstanding interest in the defender but after last night’s result, Villa are aiming to get a deal done as soon as possible so they can integrate him into their first team.

The 27-year-old defender was one of West Brom’s big signings last summer when he moved to the Hawthorns for £8m from Hull City. However the deal hasn’t worked out for the Baggies as he struggled to break into the first team and he only made 19 appearances last season. And now they are willing to sell Chester as they look to get some money back for what has to be called a flop signing.
